What Makes It Different

Built for How Babies Actually Develop

A classic, timeless biscuit invented by a Harley Street paediatrician
Since 1925

A classic, timeless biscuit invented by a Harley Street paediatrician

In 1925, Dr Harry Campbell MD FRCP - a leading Harley Street paediatrician -noticed a worrying rise in dental disease and underdeveloped jaws in UK children. His research linked it directly to diets of soft, processed foods that gave infants no opportunity to chew. His solution was Bickiepegs: a firm, resistive biscuit designed to exercise the jaw from the very start.
Resistive Chewing Is the Point

Resistive Chewing Is the Point

The firm texture of Bickiepegs isn't accidental - it's the whole idea. In contrary to other soft teething wafers, teething cookies and sticks, chewing against resistance exercises orofacial muscles, drives jawbone growth, and supports the balanced development of the oral cavity. The finger-shaped design helps reach the baby's back teeth, encouraging them to to use their incisors, canines, and molars.

Nothing Hidden

Three Ingredients. That's It.

Wheat flour. Wheat germ. Water. That is the entire ingredient list — and it has been since 1925. No added sugar. No added salt. No artificial preservatives, flavourings, or colourings. No shortcuts. Just a clean, simple biscuit handmade every single day in Scotland, held to WHO Codex standards and UK Food Safety Regulations.
It Does More Than Soothe
More Than Teething Relief

It Does More Than Soothe

The finger-shaped design means babies grip the biscuit themselves — building hand-eye coordination as they learn to guide it to their mouth. It introduces babies to harder textures, easing the transition to solid foods and reducing picky eating habits later on. The cotton safety ribbon keeps it secure and hygienic. One small biscuit. A lot going on.
Easy to Use

How To Use

Follow these simple steps for the best experience.

Step 1

Check before every use

Inspect each biscuit before giving it to your baby. Pull and bend it in all directions. If it's broken or cracked, discard it and use a fresh one.

Step 2

Thread the safety ribbon

Pass the cotton ribbon through the hole in the biscuit and tie or clip it to your baby's wrist or clothing. This prevents it dropping on the floor. Ribbons are washable and reusable.

Step 3

Let your baby take the lead

Place the biscuit in your baby's hand and let them bring it to their mouth themselves. Guide gently if needed. Encourage three chews on one side, then switch — positioning near the back premolars is ideal.

Step 4

Discard after use.

Each biscuit is single-use. Discard once the biscuit shows signs of softening, becomes unstable or misshapen, or after 20 minutes — whichever comes first. Store unused biscuits in an airtight container. Biscuits can be chilled in the fridge (not frozen) for extra soothing relief.

Why Jaw Exercise Matters From Young
The Science of Chewing During Infancy

Why Jaw Exercise Matters From Young

Teething isn't just about discomfort — it's a critical window for oral development. The muscles, bones, and teeth forming in the first two years of life are shaped, in part, by the mechanical forces of chewing. Dr Harry Campbell saw this in 1925. Modern dental research confirms it. Giving babies something firm and resistive to chew on during this period isn't just soothing — it's genuinely developmental.
  • Chewing Builds the Jaw

Resistive chewing stimulates jawbone growth and exercises orofacial muscles. Babies who chew on appropriately firm objects during teething develop stronger jaw structures and better tooth alignment.

  • Shape Matters for Tooth Spacing

The finger-shaped Bickiepeg is designed to encourage use of incisors, canines, and molars in sequence. This promotes balanced development across the whole oral cavity and creates natural space for adult teeth.

  • Soothes Through Pressure, Not Chemicals

Teething pain is relieved by gentle counter-pressure on the gums. Bickiepegs provide this naturally — no gels, no medication, no numbing agents. Just firm, safe pressure from a food-grade biscuit.

  • Bridges Teething and Solid Foods

As the biscuit slowly softens with chewing, it introduces increasingly varied textures. This trains chewing muscles and builds tolerance for solid foods — a benefit that shows up at the dinner table months later.

Frequently Asked Questions

We recommend Bickiepegs from 6 months, as this is when most babies begin teething. However, if your baby is showing early teething signs before this, Bickiepegs can be introduced earlier if you feel that they are ready. As always, supervise your baby throughout every session.
Yes. Bickiepegs are made from wheat flour, wheat germ, and water — just three simple food ingredients with no added sugar, salt, artificial preservatives, or flavourings. They are fully food-safe, compliant with UK Food Safety Regulations and WHO Codex standards. As babies chew, the biscuit gradually softens and small amounts may be ingested — this is normal and safe. Always supervise use. Note: Bickiepegs contain gluten and are not suitable for babies with a wheat or gluten intolerance.
Each pack includes 2 washable cotton safety ribbons. Thread the ribbon through the hole in the biscuit and tie or attach it to your baby's wrist or clothing — this prevents it from dropping on the floor and keeps it hygienic and within reach. The ribbons are fully washable and reusable across multiple sessions. We only include 2 per pack, but if you need more, just contact us and we'll send additional ribbons free of charge.
The biscuits are single-use — discard each one once it shows signs of softening, becomes unstable or misshapen, or after 20 minutes, whichever comes first. The cotton safety ribbons are different: they're fully washable and reusable, so keep hold of them between sessions. If you ever need extra ribbons, contact us and we'll send more free of charge. Store unused biscuits in an airtight container in a cool, dry place.
Bickiepegs is a food-based teether — not a snack, not a treat. The distinction matters. Teething snacks and rusks are typically sweet, soft, and designed to be eaten. Bickiepegs is the opposite: deliberately unsweetened, deliberately firm. There's no sugar reward driving the chewing; the benefit is entirely in the chewing action itself. It just happens to be made from food-grade ingredients, which means if your baby ingests a little as they chew, that's completely safe. There is nothing else quite like it.
This varies by baby and stage of teething. Most parents offer one biscuit per session, once or twice a day, typically before mealtimes. Each session should last no longer than 20 minutes.
