Doidy Cup: The Original Training Cup for Independent Drinking

First designed in 1950 by a parent, the Doidy Cup was created to teach children how to drink properly and independently. Recommended by dentists and speech therapists, it is widely recognised by NHS trusts, charities, and councils as the ideal cup for children. Its free-flow functionality supports natural sipping motions, while the open cup and slanted design help children see the liquid level, improving hand-eye coordination and building confidence. Suitable for babies aged 3 months and older, the Doidy Cup supports the journey toward independent drinking. While its primary focus is on teaching proper drinking techniques, it also aids in transitioning from breastfeeding or bottle-feeding.

Why Choose the Doidy Cup?

  1. Free-Flow Design: Recommended for Development
The Doidy Cup’s free-flow functionality is recommended by dentists and speech therapists. It allows liquid to flow naturally, encouraging sipping motions that support healthy oral development and help protect teeth.
  2. Open Design: Easier Transition from Breastfeeding
The open design lets children see the liquid level, helping them train their hand-eye coordination while learning to drink properly. Unlike bottles or sippy cups, it mimics the natural sipping motion, boosting confidence and preparing children to drink independently—a key NHS milestone by 12 months.
  3. Child-Friendly Features
Thoughtfully designed with two easy-grip handles, the Doidy Cup is ideal for little hands, making it simple for children to lift and control. Its slanted shape ensures drinking is intuitive and frustration-free for beginners.
  4. Simple to Clean and Use
With no extra parts, the Doidy Cup is hassle-free for busy parents. It’s dishwasher-safe (top shelf), microwave-safe, and travel-friendly for easy use at home or on the go.
  5. Safe and High-Quality Materials
Made from BPA-free, food-grade polypropylene, the Doidy Cup complies with BS EN 14350:2020 standards for safety and durability, giving parents peace of mind.

How to Use

  1. Wash the Doidy Cup before the first use.
  2. Pour a small amount of liquid into the cup. Gently place the rim on the baby’s lower lip to let them sip.
  3. As your child grows, encourage them to hold the cup handles and drink independently. Spills may occur but are part of the learning process.

Warnings and Precautions

  • Always supervise your child while feeding or drinking.
  • Check the temperature of liquids before serving.
  • Never leave a child unattended during feeding.
  • Discard at the first signs of damage or wear.

    Great training cup

Baby is getting along great with this cup. She does spill a little bit on herself, but it is definitely a great transition cup to teach her how to balance the amount of water she’s drinking better than if she were to drink straight from an adult cup. Recommend!

Recommend by my health visitor this cup was a game changer for us. We’d struggled with spout cups and sippy cups but my little one finds it really easy to drink from this. The angled design means less spillage and more drinking. Wish I’d known about these before.

I bought this for my daughter when she was 7-8 months old and she has been using it for a few months now. I really like this product. It isn’t the most robust being thin plastic (like the plastic version of ceramic) which means it will shatter if abused or dropped on concrete, but it works. The health visitor said it’s highly recommended whereas sippy cups are bad for babies, this will help her use the muscles she learns to speak with. My 10 month old sometimes holds it by the tiny handles herself, but the tilted position really does help them. I do like this product and do recommend it.

Bought this for my niece as her mums been looking at them for awhile. Lovely lilac colour! Hope it lasts as it’s going to get dropped a lot in the future.

We started weaning my daughter using this cup. She is breast fed and found the transition to this cup very easy. Highly recommend.

Recommended these to anyone, wanted to move on from cups with lids. But just taking the lids off didn’t seem to work as it gave too much liquid at once and normal ceramic child cps were too heavy for my daughter and worrisome for me. This does exactly what it says it will. After 3 days of using this, after having accidentally held it up to far and some liquid going up her nose, my daughter was using these with confidence and without help. I try and take one with me, but when I do forget, she has way more success using a normal cup than she had before and spillages using bot types of cups are now few and far between.
