Doidy Cup: The Original Training Cup for Independent Drinking

First designed in 1950 by a parent, the Doidy Cup was created to teach children how to drink properly and independently. Recommended by dentists and speech therapists, it is widely recognised by NHS trusts, charities, and councils as the ideal cup for children. Its free-flow functionality supports natural sipping motions, while the open cup and slanted design help children see the liquid level, improving hand-eye coordination and building confidence. Suitable for babies aged 3 months and older, the Doidy Cup supports the journey toward independent drinking. While its primary focus is on teaching proper drinking techniques, it also aids in transitioning from breastfeeding or bottle-feeding.

Why Choose the Doidy Cup?

  1. Free-Flow Design: Recommended for Development
The Doidy Cup’s free-flow functionality is recommended by dentists and speech therapists. It allows liquid to flow naturally, encouraging sipping motions that support healthy oral development and help protect teeth.
  2. Open Design: Easier Transition from Breastfeeding
The open design lets children see the liquid level, helping them train their hand-eye coordination while learning to drink properly. Unlike bottles or sippy cups, it mimics the natural sipping motion, boosting confidence and preparing children to drink independently—a key NHS milestone by 12 months.
  3. Child-Friendly Features
Thoughtfully designed with two easy-grip handles, the Doidy Cup is ideal for little hands, making it simple for children to lift and control. Its slanted shape ensures drinking is intuitive and frustration-free for beginners.
  4. Simple to Clean and Use
With no extra parts, the Doidy Cup is hassle-free for busy parents. It’s dishwasher-safe (top shelf), microwave-safe, and travel-friendly for easy use at home or on the go.
  5. Safe and High-Quality Materials
Made from BPA-free, food-grade polypropylene, the Doidy Cup complies with BS EN 14350:2020 standards for safety and durability, giving parents peace of mind.

How to Use

  1. Wash the Doidy Cup before the first use.
  2. Pour a small amount of liquid into the cup. Gently place the rim on the baby’s lower lip to let them sip.
  3. As your child grows, encourage them to hold the cup handles and drink independently. Spills may occur but are part of the learning process.

Warnings and Precautions

  • Always supervise your child while feeding or drinking.
  • Check the temperature of liquids before serving.
  • Never leave a child unattended during feeding.
  • Discard at the first signs of damage or wear.

Great for helping to train my 22 month old to start drinking from a cup. He still needs help to hold the cup and it’s messy! But he’s enjoying it and will get the hang of it soon

Great little creation, using along side breastfeeding and completely skipping bottles and sippy cups. Easy to clean and very light weight.
Bit expensive though, would of been cheaper if I bought two separate cups.

Have used this for my now 3 yo child who never had a problem transitioning from breastmilk to cup thanks to this product. I have bought this again for my younger daughter who is now 1 and it did not fail me.

Great cup. Easy to clean and good size as well as value for money. My daughter handles it well and finds it easy to use. I was really shocked to see her drink out of the cup all by herself as she has struggled with using others.

I’m teaching my baby to drink water and this cup makes it easy for her to hold on her own and drink without tilting and spilling much

Love this cup, my son couldn’t get on with the non-spill style cups and the HV mentioned this so thought it was worth a shot. At 6m my son has taken to it almost instantly and it impresses any friends/relatives that see him using it. He is getting on so well with it I am considering using it for his milk feeds.
Only down side to it is that my son can’t quite understand the difference between this and other cups (like stacking etc), so now tries to drink from anything resembling it. Which is hilarious to watch ??

The unique slanted design of the cup has made it easier for our toddler to grasp and drink from independently, promoting self-feeding and enhancing hand-eye coordination. The two handles provide a secure grip for our little one’s tiny hands, allowing them to confidently hold the cup without any unnecessary spills or slips.
The ergonomic design not only encourages independent drinking but also aids in the transition from bottles to regular cups. Our little one has quickly adapted to the cup’s unique shape and has shown significant progress in self-feeding and drinking skills.
