Doidy Cup: The Original Training Cup for Independent Drinking
First designed in 1950 by a parent, the Doidy Cup was created to teach children how to drink properly and independently. Recommended by dentists and speech therapists, it is widely recognised by NHS trusts, charities, and councils as the ideal cup for children. Its free-flow functionality supports natural sipping motions, while the open cup and slanted design help children see the liquid level, improving hand-eye coordination and building confidence. Suitable for babies aged 3 months and older, the Doidy Cup supports the journey toward independent drinking. While its primary focus is on teaching proper drinking techniques, it also aids in transitioning from breastfeeding or bottle-feeding.
Why Choose the Doidy Cup?
- Free-Flow Design: Recommended for Development
The Doidy Cup’s free-flow functionality is recommended by dentists and speech therapists. It allows liquid to flow naturally, encouraging sipping motions that support healthy oral development and help protect teeth. - Open Design: Easier Transition from Breastfeeding
The open design lets children see the liquid level, helping them train their hand-eye coordination while learning to drink properly. Unlike bottles or sippy cups, it mimics the natural sipping motion, boosting confidence and preparing children to drink independently—a key NHS milestone by 12 months. - Child-Friendly Features
Thoughtfully designed with two easy-grip handles, the Doidy Cup is ideal for little hands, making it simple for children to lift and control. Its slanted shape ensures drinking is intuitive and frustration-free for beginners. - Simple to Clean and Use
With no extra parts, the Doidy Cup is hassle-free for busy parents. It’s dishwasher-safe (top shelf), microwave-safe, and travel-friendly for easy use at home or on the go. - Safe and High-Quality Materials
Made from BPA-free, food-grade polypropylene, the Doidy Cup complies with BS EN 14350:2020 standards for safety and durability, giving parents peace of mind.
How to Use
- Wash the Doidy Cup before the first use.
- Pour a small amount of liquid into the cup. Gently place the rim on the baby’s lower lip to let them sip.
- As your child grows, encourage them to hold the cup handles and drink independently. Spills may occur but are part of the learning process.
Warnings and Precautions
- Always supervise your child while feeding or drinking.
- Check the temperature of liquids before serving.
- Never leave a child unattended during feeding.
- Discard at the first signs of damage or wear.

“We had begun the weaning process with Phoebe and were finding no success whatsoever in getting her to take a bottle. She is now 7 months and has been exclusively breastfed from birth.
We sought advice from experts and they told us to just persevere and also suggested we try other bottles. Despite lots of time and money invested Phoebe still point blank refused to take milk from any bottle.
As I am under pressure to return to work I was in despair.
One day I was having a discussion with my mum about it and she suggested teething might have been part of the problem. She said she had sworn by Bickiepegs when I was little and she would get Phoebe some.
When they arrived, I read the leaflet inside the box of Bickiepegs and saw the Doidy Cup. When I read up about them it made logical sense that they would be easier to wean a baby with and they were a tried and tested, more traditional way to try, so I purchased one from John Lewis.
We put a small amount of formula into it and lo and behold Phoebe drank from it like a natural. We’ve been building on this ever since and I messaged to ask for advice as it can get a little messy as far as dribbling milk is concerned. I was given some helpful tips via message and we are going to try them out.
Had I known about the Doidy Cup from the beginning I would not have spent all the time and money on the bottles. The cup is simple and easy to use. They definitely seem much easier for a breastfed baby to drink from and I will be recommending it to all my fellow breastfeeding mums. The added extra is that they remove the need to transition from bottle to cup later on. Thanks, Doidy Cup!

These work really well. Baby seems to prefer being able to see what she’s drinking!

Our daughter point blank refused all beakers we offered her so we tried an open cup which she decided she would accept! This is great, the sloped edges are great for avoiding spillage and the handles help her manoeuvre it to her mouth. She’s only 8mths old and I think this will be better when she’s a bit older as she still makes a heck of a mess – not sure if I’m allowed to reference other products in reviews but if I am, we’re using a Munchkin 360 as an interim cup which is absolutely brilliant.

Good training cup, recommended by my Health Visitor as my LO would not take the bottle at all.
Pros: easy to clean, child sees the liquid, no sucking at all
Cons: handles should be bigger for little hands to hold, my LO is only 9 months old but I have to hold this cup with both of my hands to help her control it, you’ll need a water bottle when out and about to pour some into this cup to give it to baby + you’ll always need a thick bib when giving her a drink as it’s much more likely that she’ll pour it over herself.

Great product for getting my little girl used to drinking from a cup. She can’t hold it herself yet but drinks out of it just fine with my help.

Good beaker for my daughter to drink from. She is seven months and she can hold it easily and learn to sip. Arrived quickly too.

Really good item. Great for learning

My daughter likes this, just have to be careful to give in ‘little sips’ or she just keeps gulping! Great cup.

My daughter loves this cup, it has helped her to start drinking from her big girl cup. My aunt also purchased this cup last year for my elderly grandmother so she can still enjoy a cup tea. Would highly recommend.
